The twin towers of the million-unit Guodian Shuangwei Power Plant were successfully topped off

At 12:00 on July 21, 2021, with the last steel triangle of the 18th floor precisely in place, the main structure of the #2 steel structure intercooling tower of the new construction project at Guodian Shuangwei Power Plant was successfully completed. This also marks the successful completion of the steel structure intercooling towers for the two million-unit capacity in the first phase of the Guodian Shuangwei Power Plant project in Inner Mongolia, China.

The steel structure intercooling tower project at the new Guodian Shuangwei Power Plant is the second steel structure intercooling tower project undertaken by our company, setting a new height record of 181m for the steel structure tower, surpassing the previous record of the Mengneng Xilin Thermal Power Plant project. The project is divided into two steel structure intercooling towers, #1 and #2. Each tower has a height of 190.2m, and the diameter of the zero-meter plate tower body is 148.7m. It is the largest and tallest steel structure intercooling tower in the world. Additionally, the project is the country’s first intelligent thermal power plant based on energy big data, the world’s first power plant with a million-unit capacity to use steel structure intercooler towers, and the nation’s first 4×1000MW ultra-supercritical indirect air-cooled thermal power unit.

Since the start of this project, Wang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Group and Chairman of the Steel Structure Company, along with leaders from various departments of the Group's Power Division and the Steel Structure Company, have attached great importance to the construction of the first steel tower for the million-unit capacity project. They have organized relevant departments to conduct in-depth on-site inspections and hold special planning meetings multiple times to identify the key challenges in construction. They have provided constructive guidance throughout the entire project, aiming for excellence.

The on-site project management personnel and front-line construction teams fully embodied the 'iron army' spirit of our Group's power construction division, as well as the brand and technical advantages of power construction. They tenaciously overcame numerous difficulties, including severe weather conditions in the northwest region, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the challenges of winter construction. They adhered to the work style of 'high standards, high requirements, and high efficiency.'

During the construction process, the project team strictly followed the company's standards and process protocols. To ensure the quality of welding, all welds underwent 100% ultrasonic and magnetic powder combined flaw detection. Additionally, by optimizing and adjusting the hoisting construction process, the installation size deviations were precisely controlled, ensuring the excellent commissioning of the project.

Throughout the construction, we continued to summarize and innovate in the building of large steel structure intercooler towers, resulting in 4 patents, 3 quality management achievements, 3 scientific and technological awards, and 1 construction method. The owner, supervisor, and general contractor highly praised the construction quality of our steel structure intercooler towers, as well as the refined management, innovation in new technologies, and the high-standard implementation of safe and civilized construction practices during the project.

On the same day, State Energy Group Inner Mongolia Shanghai Temple Power Generation Co., Ltd. sent a letter of thanks to the group company, highly praising our Guodian Shuangwei Power Plant Steel Structure Intercooler Project Department for successfully completing the milestone target of the two million-unit steel towers in the first phase of the Guodian Shuangwei Power Plant. Our company successfully completed the capping of the steel tower and is the only construction unit in the entire power plant to have completed this milestone on schedule, which fully demonstrates the high performance and service awareness of the steel structure company.
